St. Joseph Jagbots is our competition robotics team. Students participate in the First Lego Challenge where they work together as a team to solve robot challenge games, work on a research project, and practice their presentation skills at a yearly competition. This is open to any student in sixth, seventh and eighth grade. Students meet twice a week during the first semester of the school year. Competition date varies, but is usually in November or December.
First LEGO League Jr. is a program we have been blessed to offer here at St. Joseph for the past four years. First LEGO League Jr. is a twelve week course in which students become confident builders, programmers, problem solvers, and team leaders. Each year, there is a new Challenge Topic for the students to resolve. This year, teams will explore the growing needs and challenges of the people in our community. The teams will help imagine and create a building that solves and makes life easier, happier, or more connected for the people that use it. How will our students solve this challenge? By using LEGOS of course!
First LEGO League Jr. is so much more than playing with LEGOS. It’s about discovery, innovation, impact, inclusion, teamwork, and most importantly having fun! Each team, which is led by a parent mentor, explore a problem, create one or more solutions, test the solutions, and then share what they learned. At the end of the school year, the teams share their masterpiece in the First LEGO League Jr. Showcase.
